Today was an awesome day. It started off being awesome when Mom found the right "creme puff" for breakfast..ha! We packed our bags and headed for Madrid's famous park, El Parque del Retiro. It is so huge, green and beautiful! People come here all the time to take a siesta, read, sunbathe, paddle in the lake, picnic, and what not. Oh yeah, don't forget about the PDA. No pictures needed here. We took the metro to and from the park, without taking any "shortcuts" like last time :) Now we are hiding out in our room because it is madness outside. Hundreds of people (mostly young, hippie-looking people) camped out in Puerto del Sol (main big plaza in Madrid) to protest against the government. There were tents everywhere this morning, signs bashing the government everywhere, and lots of dredlocks. They have been out there all day and are cranking up some loud protesting for some Friday night entertainment. Mom said we needed to get back to the room ASAP because we "might get shot out there in that insanity of a riot." So here we are, in broad daylight...about to curl up in our bed and finishing watching our movie. But it's okay since the sun doesn't go down until about 10:30 here. No joke, around 9:30pm, you are good to take off your sunglasses. Here are some pics from today. Oh yeah, I think I will start posting a "picture of the day" at the end of a post. It could be the funniest or sweetest thing we saw during the day. Today we can't decide if our picture is sad, cute or funny. We will leave it up to you.
Mom got persuaded to try this octopus in the market today. The Spaniard that she was talking to "through the eyes" made a kiss to the octopus to show Mom it was her favorite. She was sold.
How does it taste, Mom? Your face looks like you are reallllllllly enjoying that!
Playing it safe with some fresh fruit
Taking a siesta in the park
Cruising around El Parque
Never know who you'll see in the park! What is Mickey doing here??
An afternoon stop for churros con chocolate...yum! The Spaniards drink straight chocolate after they finish their churros! This is no Hershey's milk chocolate syrup either..very rich, dark chocolate
